Holders of Belgian and Luxembourg passports are exempted from visa requirements up to 90 (ninety) days for holiday and business purposes only.

A. VISAS

1) Requirements for visitors who do NOT need a visa:

– For a visit of 90 (ninety) days or less in respect of tourism or business
– A valid passport for at least 30 days after the expiry of the intended visit
– At least 2 empty pages in the passport (for endorsements at the port of entry)
– Valid return-ticket

2) Visitors who REQUIRE a visa the following have to be submitted: (visit 90 days or less):

– A duly completed application form BI-84 signed by the applicant (completed in black ink)
– An acceptable passport/travel document to be valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of the intended stay and containing at least two unused pages when presenting it for endorsements.
– Proof of payment of the prescribed fee of € 43-00, (if applicable) submit a copy of your bank statement and the bankcard you have used to do the payment (if not exempted thereof, please get confirmation prior to your appointment) to be paid into the following bank account

– Valid Belgian residence card – if applicant is not in possession of a valid Belgian or Luxembourg residence card, the application has to be referred to the country of which the applicant holds a valid passport. This will imply a longer processing time
– 2 passport size photo’s
– Yellow fever certificates are required if the journey starts or entails passing through the yellow fever belt of Africa or South – America. A list of yellow fever regions is available at

– Proof of finance – to cover envisaged living expenses:
• bank statements
• or salary advice
• or travellers cheques
• or copy of credit card with last month’s bank statement
– Medical Insurance
– Supporting documentation confirming the purpose of the visit e.g.
• Original invitation letter of family member/friend in South-Africa (tourism purposes), to take full responsibility with proof of finance, signed at the South African Police
• Original business letter from the local company (business purposes)
– Valid return ticket
– In respect of minor dependent children accompanying the applicant to or joining the applicant in the Republic, be accompanied by-
• in the case of a minor subject to guardianship or custody, proof of such guardianship and custody; or
• in the case of an unaccompanied minor, consent from the guardian;

• Submit your application in person to the Embassy on appointment.

• Visas CANNOT be applied for at South African ports of entry.

Please note: all documents must be original or copies authenticated by the issuing authority of the country of origin and if applicable, translated into English by a sworn translator – faxes and/or e-mails are not accepted

B. ALL OTHER PERMITS AND CIVIC MATTERS: ON APPOINTMENT ONLY!

– Applications for a study/work/voluntary/ or permanent residence – permits
– Applications for a new South African passport – Birth registration – Identity Document – Marriage Certificate – Birth Certificate etc

C. REFUND OF DEPOSIT OR PAYMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE FEE

Refund of deposit: Submit your passport and original receipt of payment, refunds will only be done by bank transfer, please allow 2 weeks processing time.
Payment of administrative fee: letter from the Department of Home Affairs and your passport with relevant permit.

D. IMPORTANT NOTICE TO SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS TRAVELLING WITH A TEMPORARY PASSPORT:

Please be advised that temporary passports are not accepted by some countries. It is the responsibility of the traveller to inquire with the countries to be visited before applying for a temporary passport. The Embassy/Consulate accepts no liability in this regard.
The following countries, known to this Mission, will no longer accept South Africans travelling on a temporary passport: Belgium – France – Italy – Netherlands – Luxemburg – Greece – United Kingdom – Germany – Canada – Saudi Arabia – China

E. IMPORTANT NOTICE TO SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENS TRAVELING TO SOUTH AFRICA:

SOUTH AFRICAN CITIZENSHIP AMENDMENT ACT, 2004-10-25 (ACT NO. 17 OF 2004)
The Amendment act repealed section 9 of the South African Citizenship act, 1995, which regulated the use of the
citizenship or nationality of another country by a South African dual citizen.
This inter alia means that the system of exemptions/letters of permission to make use of a foreign passport has now been terminated. No further applications in this regard may therefore be processed.
South African citizens MUST enter and leave South Africa on their South African passport.

F. Driver’s License

It is of vital importance that you are in possession of an international driver’s license, which can be applied for at your local Community.

G. IMPORTANT INFORMATION

-Allow 10 working days for processing of visa/permit applications.
-Application for a South African passport/Birth certificate etc. can take up to 5 months to be finalised by Home Affairs in Pretoria.
– Incomplete applications will not be accepted by the Embassy.
