SOUTH AFRICA-BELGIUM RELATIONS

South Africa-Belgium cooperation is very important and with this in mind the South African Embassy will undertake several activities including a series of regional visits in order to promote and strengthen relations between the two countries. Particular interest will be given to the business Community in Belgium which will be invited to participate in the massive infrastructure development drive underway in South Africa as announced by President Zuma in the 2012 State of the Nation Address

South Africa – Flanders Partnership
The 2012 – 2016 Country Strategic Paper II (CSPII), finalised in 2011, guides the Development Cooperation projects Flanders has with South Africa. Under the current CSPII, during which Flanders is to commit approximately Euro 5 million per year, cooperation will focus on job creation through small enterprise development and small-holder agriculture and food security. The prevention of HIV/AIDS will be addressed as a crosscutting issue under both these programmes. Again, these programmes are in-line with the South African Government’s developmental priorities.
In terms of the application of the Memorandum of Understanding on Development Cooperation between South Africa and Flanders the programmes will focus on three Provinces in South Africa.

PORTS

With the spotlight on infrastructure development, Government has given new life to Port Management by reducing port charges as well as the costs of doing business. The Mission will endeavour to interact with the Port of Antwerp in this regard in the area of logistics and the distribution of goods. APEC will be engaged as it offers excellent training opportunities in Port Management and other related programmes which South Africa could further capitalise on.
